Best of all, Neil Gaiman is coming over for the awards night and the launch of the compilation of last year’s winner. Leinil Francis Yu, Pinoy superstar penciller of such blockbusters like Superman: Birthright and Wolverine will be drawing the cover.
Yowza! I gotta try submitting something. Maybe an old story or some old comics…anything!
Remember, there are two categories: comics and prose so you better get cracking because deadline of submission of entries is on October 31, 2007.

Apparently, comic books are still quite dangerous…according to the Chinese Government, that is.
“BEIJING (Kyodo) China has confiscated close to 6,000 of Japan’s popular “Death Note” comic books as part of a crackdown on horror publications that it deems harmful to children, according to state-run media.
The 5,912 comic books join 11,930 other “illegal horror books” that have already been swept from shelves across the country, Xinhua news agency reported late Wednesday.”

“Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Marvel Comics‘ President of Production Kevin Feige says the next superhero movie will be Captain America.”
Though a director has yet to be named it has been revealed that a screenplay is already in development (with David Self assigned with the writing chores). Projected release of the feature film is going to be in 2009.
That should give MARVEL enough time to bring Steve Rogers back to life.

The Manila Christian Computer Institute for the Deaf is a school whose principal aim is “to assist the hearing impaired in getting a better chance to compete for employment, education and other opportunities like every other citizen”.
As part of their mission to disseminate information about deafness, deaf and their culture, the MCCID began publishing a comic strip depicting a Filipino Deaf to help others to better understand their condition, the challenges they face on a daily basis, and show the lighter side of the kind of life they lead.

Several cartoonists are credited for the drawings some of which are Sir Oscar M. Purificacion and Diane A. Barcelona.
The comic strips’ topic, though the drawings themselves are a bit raw, is quite refreshing because it is so different from the usual fare that we get on a daily basis. The fact that it serves a greater purpose other than self aggrandizement doesn’t hurt either.
