“Activate interlocks, dynatherms connected, infracells are up, mega-thrusters are go!”
If you recognize the preceding line then you know definitely know Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
One of the more popular franchises from the 80s, Voltron had it all: good ratings, a toyline, and comics. One of the things I enjoyed about the show was Peter Cullen’s voice over every start of the show.
“From days of long ago…from uncharted regions of the universe, comes a legend. The legend of Voltron. A mighty robot. Loved by good, feared by evil.”
Peter Cullen is the voice talent that gave Optimus Prime life in the cartoon series and in the movies.
Apparently, after Transformers’ success at the box office, the powers-that-be finally gave the proposed Voltron Movie the green light.
After the resounding success of this year’s Transformers, it seems the animated-robot genre has been officially revived. I just hope this movie will be less about novelty and special effects, and more about the story.
Lions or Cars?
Rico: It’s probably going to be the lions since they were arguably the more popular version of Voltron. The vehicle version was a bit lame.
I LOVE Voltron…the original lions version=) I used to have a crush on the robot…wierd?=P He looks so macho…and ‘the head’ is very handsome=P Why isnt anyone reviving Mazinger Z?
Sorsi: You had a crush on Voltron? Hardcore!
As for the Mazinger franchise, well you never really know with Hollywood. For all we know, someone is already drafting a script to pitch around.
It would be interesting to see how Aphrodite A will be portrayed with her breast missile and all. He he he!
One thing’s for sure though. The success of Transformers has opened many doors and we just might see more of our mechanical heroes on the big screen sooner than we think.
I hope the movie won’t be done like the Power Ranger movie the story must be really good.
So far it seems like it’s going to be given a “serious” treatment but one never knows with these things. Right now we can only hope for the best.
