Stephen King Ventures into Comic Books

Yep, it’s confirmed.

Stephen King, well-known horror/fiction writer whose credits include The Tommyknockers and The Stand (one of my personal favorites), is going to be including comic books to his already long list of achievements.

Marvel Comics has published his book, Dark Tower as a comic book serial. Also involved in the project are comic book favorites Jae Lee and Richard Isanove.

So far more than 200,000 copies have been sold.

King is not involved with the day-to-day writing however, leaving scribe duties to Peter David and Robin Furth, serving instead as consultant and having veto power over everything.

The apparent success of the Dark Tower is very much welcome.

Bringing someone like Stephen King into a project like this can only be good for comics as the medium gets introduced into new audiences (especially those of a literary bent) that may not have otherwise picked up a comic book.

I remember a similar but short-lived line of books Marvel published in the early 90s called Razorline. These were concepts from Clive Barker, another horror writer.

I hope copies find their way to the Philippines. If not I’m going to wait for the Trade Paper Back edition.

More bang for the buck.
