Zach Snyder, the director of 300, is also set to direct another movie adaptation of a comic book property: DC Comic’s Watchmen.
Watchmen was written by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons and was one of the “superhero comics to present itself as serious literature”. It was also instrumental in popularizing the Graphic Novel format and continues to enjoy good sales to this day.
Anyways, with the success of 300 and his faithfulness to the source material, there is renewed interest (and indeed, excitement) in his big screen version of Watchmen.

I can hardly wait!

You know, I wonder if we’re experiencing a movie adaptation bubble? When will the bust be?
I really enjoyed reading Watchmen though, and I honestly can’t wait until it comes out!
Rico: Not for some time to come in my opinion. Technology has just barely caught up with our imagination and there’s still a myriad of stories out there just waiting for translation to the big screen. In fact, I’m guessing that as movie goers get more sophisticated and/or jaded, moviemakers will be turning more and more to comic books for inspiration and I’m not just talking superhero type stories here.
If at all, as technology further democratizes film making, we’re going to be seeing more and more of these adaptation flicks.
