is something that an artist, especially a comic book artist, should never stopped doing.
I referenced this quick drawing (15 minutes, tops) of Jose Pepe Smith from a photograph taken of him from an FHM Magazine using a MARS Staedtler Clutch Pencil and a Rotring eraser on a Corona Sketchpad.
I usually use a clutch pencil because the widely available mechanical pencils have thin graphites which tends to break easily especially if you’re like me. I’m a bit heavy-handed when I’m drawing.
It’s sort of my small tribute to the Father of Pinoy Rock.
I stil remember covering the songs he wrote back when I was in highschool and college (during my “heydays” when I was playing with various bands with some friends).
“Ang Himig Natin” was a heavy favorite of ours, both for being easy to play and the reactions it provoked in the audience.
Anyways, I left this piece un-inked to retain the edginess which befits the Father’s image.
