Lastikman

Lastikman is another creation of Komiks Great, Mars Ravelo who also created Darna and Dyesebel. The character first debuted in Aliwan Komiks in 1964.

To date, there have been three movie versions chronicling the adventure of this rubbery superhero. The first was in 1958 where he was played by Von Serna, the second was in 2003 where Vic Sotto took a shot at him, and finally in 2005 where the role was handed down to Mark Bautista.

I’ve never seen the first movie by Von Serna and I wasn’t blown away by Vic Sotto and Mark Bautista’s portrayal of the character. It was OK but not really spectacular.

It’s no big secret that I am a big fan of the comic version of Lastikman published by Mango Comics, written by Gerry Alanguilan, drawn by Arnold Arre, and colored by Edgar Tadeo. I’m hoping, if ever they make another movie for this franchise, that they’d use the comic book these guys made as material for the movie.

In fact, I got the perfect (and I mean the perfect guy!) to play Lastikman: Vhong Navarro.

I was watching Agent X44 last weekend and the moment Vhong walked in for the first time in his spiffy hair and funky glasses, the first thing that came to mind was “it’s Lastikman!”.

You got to admit that he bears a striking similarity to the character.

I saw the Von Serna version when I was a kid, once or twice yata yun. I don’t remember it being funny but the costume was spot-on. Di ba may binabalak silang TV series ng “Lastikman” with Vhong Navarro in the lead role?

i can imagine Vhong in the role. the guy can move, too. and if their target audience are kids/kids-at-heart, then he fits to a T. :-)

Jun: Yeah! I’m surprised the powers-that-be in the studios didn’t get him in the first place. He’s one of the local comedians that I actually find funny. :)

Er, I was merely suggesting that Vhong would be perfect to play the role if ever another movie was made. To date I have heard no word that there is one in the works though it would be kewl if there was and Vhong was indeed picked to play the title role.

Thanks for visiting! :D
