I started a new company in the last quarter of 2007 which I called ROBO MONKEY PIXEL FIGHTERS. This studio will be dedicated to art and comic book production as well as a few graphic design and layout projects here and there.

Read or Die, together with the UP Institute of Creative Writing and the UP College of Arts and Letters in partnership with Komikera and the New Worlds Alliance is organizing a comics symposium titled Pasko ng Komiks.

It’s all happening on December 11, 2007 Tuesday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Claro M. Recto Hall, Faculty Center, UP Diliman.

I’ll be participating in the artists forum from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. More details here.

IAS Manila, Inc., the studio I manage, is going to be holding two exciting contests at the upcoming KOMIKON happening this November 17, 2007 at the UP Bahay ng Alumni in UP Diliman.

The first one is an on-the-spot drawing contest.

The other is an on-the-spot digital coloring contest.

Following is the terms and conditions for the contest.

Lead Slinger Challenge (Drawing Contest) and Pixel Battle Royale (Digital Coloring Contest)

Terms and Conditions for the Lead Slinger Challenge Drawing Contest and the Pixel Battle Royale Digital Coloring Contest

1. There will be only one (1) winner for the Lead Slinger Challenge (drawing contest) and only one (1) winner for the Pixel Battle Royale (digital coloring contest) respectively. Each of the winners will be receiving Php 10,000.00 and a two-week in-house workshop at IAS Manila, Inc.

2. Judges decision is final.

3. Contestant must be a Filipino citizen (by birth or by naturalization) to enter the challenge.

4. Interested parties must submit at least 5 samples of their work to be considered for the contest. A panel of artists from IAS Manila, Inc. will shortlist three finalist from the total collection of submitted works. The contestants will be notified at least five (5) days before the event on November 17, 2007 by e-mail, SMS, and phone call.

5. Finalists must confirm their participation in the contest by e-mail, SMS, and phone call at least 3 days before the contest proper to give the organizers ample time to select a substitute in the event that they will be unable to join.

6. There will be no contest fees to be paid.

7. The artworks produced by the contestants in the contest proper remain the property of each individual contestant. IAS Manila, Inc. reserves the right to use said artworks in promoting the event including photographs and videos of the contestants taken during the event.

Celebrate Comics and MangaDay at Powerbooks at their SM Megamall Branch this Saturday, October 20, 2007 (that’s tomorrow actually). Some of the activities to watch out for are the panel discussions, autograph signing sessions, lectures, portfolio reviews, drawing exhibition, and a lot more!

I’m headed there to also check out the daMEAT people who are going to be having their meeting on that day themselves.

Tony Gloria, Unitel Head (a local film outfit), has recently acquired the rights to Arnold Arre’s Andong Agimat.

Tony is planning to produce the popular graphic novel either as a movie or a TV series (hopefully both) and is looking at Robin Padilla to play the lead role of Andong. Unitel is preparing an audiovisual presentation for the American Film Market to attract investors for the movie.
